Richard Agar has today announced his 19-man squad with just one change to last week’s named for the trip to Hull with Matty Wildie replacing Liam Kay.

19-man squad: Mathers, Fox, Collis, Mellars, Cockayne, John, Wood, Wilkes, Raleigh, Lauitiiti, Southern, Washbrook, Aiton, Johnson, Kirmond, Smith, Wildie, Trout, Walshaw.

Glad to see Wildie in the squad. I want to see him make some first team appearances again. I think he has immense potential and could become a marque player for us in the near future.

Agar does not rate him either, although people playing in front of him probably does not warrant being dropped.
Andy is on a big chunk of money too so quite an expensive luxury to have sitting in the stands.

I think Ellis was signed pre Agar. Agar has very fixed ideas on the team he wants to play and perhaps Agar would not have chosen to sign Ellis. In which case Ellis is not his first choice. This does not mean "he doesn't rate him" it means he rates others higher.

The difference is subtle but real, however it clearly suits your agenda fueled posts to take the glass half empty option.

Agar said on the radio that he plays Kyle Wood as he can play hooker, is better cover in the halfbacks and has a good kicking game, so what vasty says has more than a ring of truth to it.

Could be any number of reasons:

-He has not recovered from the ankle injury he picked up in the reserves

-Agar does not see a reason to drop Kyle Wood from the interchange hooker role (and why should he given how Kyle is playing)

-Agar is ignoring the fickle fans who want to see the partnership of John and Smith broken up before it's had a chance to develop (which as coach is his right, and his job)


Let's stop trying to create issues where there are none. I love this club but sometimes I don't like it's supporters very much!

Ellis looked good for London last season, but I can't see any reason to make a change - none of us are privy to the training and conditioning sessions, so if Ellis is not being picked, we have to trust that it's due to something that is, or isn't, happening there.

If anyone believes that Agar would choose not to pick Ellis if he thought he was a better option, they're potty; he wants to win!

ellis is a victim of circumstances and agar's strong character (never thought i'd say that). on paper he'd be in the 17, but as those that had and took their chance have given agar no reason to drop them, then he's not. simple as that. agree with bren2k, agar wants to win. he has to make his time at wakefield a success, or he's really going to struggle for another top flight job in the next decade.
