Apart from a handy step, can he really offer what we need? Blake Austin has a great step and wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference to our 2022 efforts.

We’re basically lining him up to be Clifford the Big Red Scapegoat. What we need is a classic organising scrum half to complement Williams.

Getting to be a joke . We either persevere with the kids ,who at least show commitment or go the whole hog & sign a bunch of NRL wannabees.

They seem to think he’s got the kicking to control a game. Hope so.

I’ve watched his YouTube highlights from Newcastle and they only really show one try, a high kick and a support run. Plus a couple of goal kicks.

Having said that, we usually get treated to some amazing highlight reel and the player turns out to be duff. So maybe this will somehow work in reverse and we’ll have uncovered a gem.

EDIT: He seems to be praised for his defence. So that is at least something to be positive about. He also captained the Junior Kangaroos which is no mean feat.

Started off promisingly, strong kicking game, controls the game well etc - just what we need. Then some talk of a loss of form and confidence and his wife being homesick! It all feels too familiar!!

Yes, it reads that his wife is a home bird, that wants/needs to be near her family.

Tough call for her then to settle in the UK, when she couldn`t hack living in NSW because it was too far from Queensland.

Last time I suggested a new signing wasn't what we needed in the squad it was dufty so I'm keeping my mouth shut on this one. The signings we have made so far for next season all look good, if we add a half and a centre I think that's good business really. Just need the coach to get them performing as a team then we should be able to actually enjoy next season.

Go back a year and replace the name Jake Clifford with Brodie Croft (or Cade Cust) and the reaction would have been the same. I don't know him at all.

For me we need another half-back (to play with Williams). Also have to sort out the Centre position & Wing before we are looking anything like. So let's hope Clifford could be one problem solved.
