Wondered if anyone could spare some advice?

I really want to start playing rugby but the problem is I have never played before other than a few times in school, another problem is I would probably have to play open age, I'm unfit and wouldn't be of much use to a team.....time to say goodbye on a rugby career that hasnt started?

My advice would be to play for a open age second team.

I'd advise you contact your nearest amateur club and talk to them directly. Not all players compete, regardless of age. Your fitness will increase as you train and play. So long as you are within the playable age range - as opposed to the age range for masters! - then you could find that your local club is happy to provide you with an opportunity. Remember, Saints have just given a chance to a 23 year old Irish former rugby union player. You may have to train with the younger guys to start with but that will depend on the club's approach.

Find a team that run a social rugby team at first, they'll just do a bit of tick and pass at training probably which will increase your fitness no end. There's plenty of team's around who play for a good laugh and the love of the game rather than a fully competitive match so just have a ring around the local clubs (Blackbrook, Thatto Heath, Pilks Recs, Haresfinch etc..) and see which one you like the sound of.

Maybe we could arrange a social game against the pies board cherry & White.

We would absolutely batter them.

Apply to Saints. Josh Perry was in a similar situation when he started with us. Isn't much past it now either.

Doubt it. They have a team that has played for years don't they?

Doesn't mean they're any good. Played for years usually means old and past it anyway.
