Sounds about right. You could probably buy a new telly for less than the repair

| Client of ours who repairs TVs etc said its not worth repairing any LCD that has gone. But make sure it is the screen as sometimes its just a switch that burns out.

| Comet have now had my tv for 5 weeks after the lcd screen started "solarising" and is knackered, rather than just admit defeat and replace the set they are sourcing a new screen which will probably cost them more in the long run and keep me waiting even longer whilst I wait for the part to turn up. Unless you have any sort of insurance or warranty that covers the tv your probably better of just buying a new tv.

You could have bought all Comet for £2 last month. And you'd have got a £50m sweetener as well. Your next visit to the shop as the new owner/employer would have been worth videoing I reckon.

Usually means they are looking for a cheap one, more often a second user one from a unit with another fault.
Usually used as a time waster before offering the customer a stupidly small refund or offer of a vastly inferior replacement.

| Thats what I was thinking, However the fault was reported within the 12 month warranty period (however its taking so long to sort the warranty is now over....) so I would assume I'm entitled to a full refund if it can't be repaired, or am I assuming this wrongly?

They are entitled to repair it, the replacement part need not be a new one either, you'd have to check the details in your warranty as to what kind of refund you can get and when, they may offer you a replacement model. You'll get them trying to repair or replace before you get a refund.

Curry's PC World will be next and I don't think the current pi[is[/is-poor advertising campaigns for both companies are unconnected.
FFS who in their right mind would walk into a store to buy something when all the current adverts show is the staff fannying around "creating" things from the goods on the shelves?
The Curry's PC World ad is as bad. Who would buy from a company that implies they employ Darth Vaderesque trainers/assessors?
The management of each company agreeing to commission those ads would have been enough to scare off any investor

| I'm not surprised that Comet's owners are looking to offload the chain, the last four things I have bought from them (all in this year) have required a return because they were dead, or a return because they were damaged when unpacked, and giving them even more benefit of the doubt I called in there three weeks ago to buy some new headphones, picked up a pair off a shelf that were priced reasonably, took them to the desk to be told they were double what was indicated, I took the assistant over to the shelf and he mumbled something about "someone's got the prices mixed up", I mentioned that the very least that you'd expect from a shop is for them to display the price of their goods, he said nothing so I left - I won't be going back to Comet, not while they still exist in this format anyway.
As I understand their parent company were looking to offload before the end of the calendar year ?
