Keep on Running, Steve Prescott’s Engage Mutual Challenge
28 September - October 2nd.
Two Castleford Tigers fans are part of a group from HMP Leeds that will don their running shoes and grind out the miles next week in support of an ultra marathon challenge being undertaken by ex Hull and Wakefield rugby League, star Steve Prescott MBE, who is fighting terminal cancer.
Steve plans to run four marathons in four days, across Yorkshire and into Lancashire as part of a fundraising mission to raise money for Try Assist, the rugby league benevolent fund which supports injured ex players, and The Christie Hospital, which treats and conducts research into Steve’s rare cancer, pseudomyxoma peritonei.
Tigers fans Liam Gill (23) and Mark Hudson (47) who is governor at HMP Leeds will join HMP Leeds Officer Steve Mardy (51)and Senior officer Andy Bagnall (46) in supporting Steve by running alongside him for the 15.5 miles from Monk Fryston to Headingley via Garforth on day two.

Mark Hudson stated:
“Both myself and Liam are big Tigers fans, and our inspiration to be part of the challenge is obviously to be able to run and support Steve. I have watched in amazement at some of the challenges Steve has set himself over the years. The deciding factor came at Knowsley Road at our final game of the season. The reception Steve received before the curtain raiser left the hairs on your neck standing up.
“We all feel privileged to be given this opportunity to run alongside Steve. The man is a legend in the game and an inspiration to us all.”
