Even with the announcement of Crusaders players being taken off OS quota, isn't Sammut down as a Malta international so wouldn't count againt the quota anyway? When does Ben Jefferies come off the quota list?

this whole situation is very very complicated now, did we sign sammut too early for him not to count on crusaders dispensation, does he actually count as overseas or non fed trained(which in itself is very complicated)

I'm pretty sure the rule is that a club is allowed 5 Non Federation Trained Players of which all can be quota players. Nowadays Non Fed players and qutoa players amount to the same thing. A club is allowed 5 players who are not Fed trained no matter where they come from.

The question for the Bulls is will Sammut count or not due to the timing of the announcement. You would feel pretty aggrieved if the RFL treated him any differently to the rest of the Crusader's players I think.

theres 2 quotas we have to adhere to and players can count on both. sammut is not on the overseas quota but he is on the non fed trained one (unless he gets same exemption as other crusaders players). We're allowed 5 players on each quota.

Mat - As a first time poster I'm nervous of saying this but anyone who is on the list of quota players will automatically be on the list of Non Fed trained players won't they?(like Kearney & L'Estrange) So to simplify things for us all can't we say that we are allowed 5 Non Fed trained players regardless of whether they are also on the overseas quota as well. Effectively we are allowed 5 players who have not come through a Super League team's academy (barring exemptions such as Jefries & Royston)

At the end of the day you are only allowed 5 players trained outside the UK AND French federation, wether they are Kolpack or Australasian or not.

I think your last sentence answers your own question Peregrine. I'd suggest others might be players from countries where there is no professional rugby, like the south sea islands, like Tonga or Samoa and similar, where the players concerned didn't originally train in Aus/NZ, or possibly European countries other than France, though in terms of SL, due to a French club being in the league, I think they would probably be regarded as fed trained.

Connor Murphy tweeted that BJ is off definately off quota for next year due to British passport being acquired.

Sammut was not initally trained in UK or France, so will count as Quota unless RFL decide to include him in Crusaders exemption - Hood is seeking clarification, and I'm sure result either way will be announced soon.
